I took up this book names Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto.
Name of the book is strange so is the name of the author. Even characters were strange appearing from nowhere and vanishing when you started thinking about them. There was mention of kitchen in the starting abut then again there was nothing much. One should not read lines in this book but what is going on behind lines.
I hardly found a sentence worth taking down. I think this book was not meant for that. There was story and it was always going backward rather than moving forward. There would be a page forward but then it would move years back. I could only understand the turmoil of the protagonist in the pages. Only in the last page I could find something worth copying down.

Muslim Identity

There is personal incident narrated telling how the separate identity is created in society unconsciously even at at the tender age.
In the later section it analyzes latest Bihar election in this regard. Here are the words.

In the just concluded Assembly polls, with no community leader of substance in the reckoning, the Muslim voting pattern varied from constituency to constituency. If they embraced Nitish Kumar-led NDA on a large number of seats, they totally rejected him in the Muslim majority Kishanganj. The rejection followed the NDA attempt to hoist a discredited Taslimuddin on the masses.
Similarly, while the Muslims deserted a listless RJD and LJP of Lalu Prasad and Ram Vilas Paswan, still the decent Muslim leaders from these parties managed to win. If Rahul Gandhi was rejected for raising hands with Ranjeet Ranjan and Lovely Anand, Lalu Prasad was rejected for visiting Shahabuddin in Siwan jail just ahead of the polls. Do we need a more compelling example to support the Muslim desire to join the national mainstream?

Ghummakkar
Today a when a man is able to save some money he goes on to buy a land. Then comes making of house. And then making family. Why family because he feels that has been a tradition in society. Of course there are people who don't feel the same and they have done away with the family making step. They still continue to live and even claim to live happily. leaving those numerical minority most of the people want to belong to somewhere, somebody and something.
Now think about the ghummakar- wanderers. They do not belong to some where but that do not bother them at all. They belong to every where. In fact they make every place as their own. They do make choices. They settle down at some place seeing the favorable condition to prolong their life as long as they can. And then a time comes when they uproot their tents and move to a new place. They are free from attachment of place. Since they are on move they cannot afford to accumulate many things. less luggage more comfort. makes travel a pleasure. They are happy. It is not mean that they dont have problems. Like anybody else they too have problems- just another set of them. What is difference is they have less burden and lesser worries. life is light. They can never become rich. richness is not the part of their goal. the part of their goal is to live and to flow in the current of time. They have been taught of this flow since their birth. They have few people who move with them but their uniqueness is that they never feel alien among the new people and new culture too. That is their strength. They find out a link which can connect them to the new group of people. but they will never make any bond so strong which cannot be snapped when time pulls them away.
Now look ata the people who want to belong to somewhere some people and something. They too are in flux but they shut their eyes to the change they want to precipitate while time wants then to dissolve. They acquire some place and some people and some things too. they try to resist the pull of time. it goes on for some time till the power of time over takes and snaps then away. It becomes very painful for the person and also to the people and the place where he belonged because the bond was strong and it caused pain. But eventually very one has to flow in time. Ghummakar are trained in this while others ....

Excitement and Tension
The present day excitement is rooted in the inherent tension of individual. Everyone wants some change to happen. It is very surprising how few changes have taken place. How the entertainment has changed. If you talk of entertainment what comes to mind is movie- one of the predominant way of present day entertainment. What is movie? Many will tell it is story telling. How many viewers will accept this point? In plain term it is only exploitation of the present tension in the mind in that two to three hour. They have another aim that is to keep that tension alive. Mind should not become truth seeker but at the most a fact finder. Truth is not seen it is fact which is seen. People are being told to look for facts. Facts are presented in front of them sometimes selective fact. While eyes see facts, mind is seeking truth. It tries to visualize truth. When selective fact is served with certain intent a distorted picture of truth is formed. Once a mind accepts something as truth it becomes basis for further perception and experience. If all the facts are provided to maintain the turbulence what better can we expect than what we see around us.

Thesis and antithesis
For every concept to exist, there has to be a counter concept. only absolute can exist without contradiction. But then, Absolute does not need discussion. In fact it cannot be observed. It is only an open and humble mind which accepts the possibility of other. Everything is existence. Going further, everything is projection of our own concept about it. As long as one stays in this world of duality and multiplicity one cannot deny existence of others. This perception of other is derived not from others, but from within. Others are just the screen of our projected concept. While we get so much engrossed in viewing our self-righteous projection, we go into even unconscious denial of the other. This self-righteous projection takes our concentration away from us and leads to self self destruction.
One cannot start journey from an unknown far away imaginary point. It must start from the point of standing. so we must understand where do we stand. Next should be acceptance of multiplicity around us, not by judging but accepting.
what we need is certainly not somebody or something we need yourself to be what we are. Joy and sorrow spring out from within. when we can locate our self we can even understand the grand pattern and importance of others. We are moving on earth in straight line. but the earth itself is curved so we the straight line ends up having a bent. so are we going in circle? may be but the earth itself is rotating and circumnavigating around the Sun. So we are moving to a greater distance in some spiral pathway. Spiral! are we evolving. Give a break to the thought process. The sun itself is moving in the Milky way. and the Milky way is also receding away from some unknown center. So every moment we are in a different point of space matrix. Three dimensional space, which transforms itself into a plane to accommodate other existences. and all these planes together become a point on the scale of time.
Are we to concentrate on this flux of time and space? Or better find that unmoving point and unchanging I within us?

Drama in Parliament
It is easy to see through the drama our leaders are playing. They are supposed to be good actors but even in that they are not good. Their face betrays them. There is no sincerity accompanying the high words they utter. So what they tell is lost in the airwaves. It never touches heart. It is to be wondered, how many are ready to give up life for a cause.
Most of the people will blame government for the misdeeds. But in parliamentary democracy equal if not more share falls on opposition. We don’t have control over government and but we have sent opposition for the same purpose. If they cannot make something happen they are not worth the salt. If they feel that they are right then have lost confidence in support of people? They know fully well that people are loosing confidence in them. We have to manage with whatever leadership we have. It is not to think that they are some sort of fool. But loks like they have lost power of innovation? Have they lost connection with people? Why don’t they go on hunger strike on mass and let`s see how government is not acting. But Arun Shourie has told it right all are one and the same with different names. Who ever will come will do effectively the same just in different way.

The first is the representative phenomena at the world level where as the later one is of national level. Question is often asked, who is afraid of leak? The one who has a lot to hide is afraid of leaks. In most of these cases, it is showing the double face, our so called leaders are having.
World is dominated by policies of America. If any policy has to see the light it will have to have sanction of USA. Earlier USSR was also included in this. What happens when absolute power is given in some hands. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Society should see to it that there must not be absolute power in any hands. We must accept that we are human being and every one suffers certain weaknesses. The one in power will try to accumulate power the one with money will try to accumulate money.
Surprisingly, even after these disclosures none are ready to accept the reality. The story of the naked king should be retold to them. It would have been much easier to accept the reality. What is wrong in accepting that one nation spies on other. There is certain perception about everything which cannot be told openly. Why USA should send apology to other nations. US government is not working for other nation but for its own people. And whatever is good for American should be pursued- even if that means supporting a rogue or killing and innocent. It is people of America who should judge their government. Though there is lot of hullabaloo over the exposure, it will be too much to expect from world over to react to the leaks. They will try every time to save exposed people because everyone is naked in the pool. They think that people are fool and few people have got higher intelligence than other. The same so called free media have gone silent. It is to be understood that they were never free. They were mouthpiece of somebody. And when that body was hurt they are told to keep quite not even cry.
While world over taken to retaliation by accusing the leaker of fraud and many other unlawful activities, in Bharat it has taken a different turn-Black out. At this time it looks media house are in hand in hand. Don’t say don’t talk. People have short memory every thing will be forgotten. Yes, every thing will be forgotten for they are not worth remembering. What is wrong in accepting in what you are. The problem is that we have projected our image to be greater than our real self and the image has become the burden for us.
Editors have bias- who does not know this fact? By saying that one does not know it is not fooling others but your own self. I don’t think anybody will object to that. In that sense I think few have been more open than others. It is very easy to appreciate Swapan Dasgupta, Chandan Mitra (of The Pioneer) and alike to accept their bias. That is open. Nobody will expect more from them. They will also not fall short in expectations of people. But Padgaonkar (of TOI) Vinod Sharma (of HT) Vinod Mehta (Outlook) and alike will never accept their allegiances, while it is bare open in every word they offer and every though they try to camouflage. Better not talk of TV anchor who are given unnecessary publicity for the word the word they utter. It appears, the chance to sit as the anchor comes with the quality of looking good and power to set aside logic and sensationalize every nonsense.
There was one piece of news which appeared and that was like a soothing balm in to the pain cause by everyone else. That was by Arun Shourie. He told it that all concerned people would go through the primary sources and understand the situation using their own intelligence. Relying on interpretation by other will not be good for anybody. We have to teach people to be that if something concerns them, then it should be studies thoroughly. That will give the power of knowledge in every hand. If one clear rest will follow.

Accidents and O rgan Donation
I was going though news when i heard that there is proposal by health ministry to net work the organ donation act. they put up statistics. Organs are needed in thousands if not lakhs but what is available barely crosses two digit. Health secretary mentioned that it is shameful for th country with billion to say that it does not have organs to donate. I wondered about the logic. After all, we dont have many things. we dont have food to feed million, cloth to wrap the body and home to shelter them. we dont have medicine for a child dying of epidemic in remote corner. We dont have teachers to teach our children. No use of asking these question.
Organs are necessary. Why? most of th e people waiting for them are the Richie rich. Who would not mind strangulating few to increase additional zeroes in their bank accounts.
So how to get it? They will punch the organ donation on driving license. Why? there is high number of traffic accidents. So next time a traffic accident occurs it will be a positive signal somewhere. Some people will be waiting for such accidents to occur. Those, who will die in th accidents, will be termed as martyrs. Next time traffic accidents will be good sign for health sector. What about he case if the person is found to be without license. At the lat signal he was let go by the cop for mere Rs 50/-. And wondered if there id not going to be auction of organ where a foreigner with higher bid will end up reaping the benefit of the accident. we will become good in the eyes of world community. Organ donor nation.

When i pocked it uo i thought it might have some relation with Sacchar of Sacchar cammitte fame. i was thinking that it it nice plot to be adapted for drama or movie, only to realize later that a movie was make on it.
Imaginative. Aimed at children but involving even for elders. something foe everyone. If you understand the sentence you get meaning, if you look between the lines you understand further and if you can read between the pages yuo understand further. Every word with very good taste.
