my sweet home

My home
Surrounded by land that changes its colour with the changing of seasons. Connected to the earth, the water, the wind, the fire and the space in their subtle form. Arches of cow dung lines on the floor. Lime painted wall with the depiction of imagination in the traditional style. Waking up with the sound of bell as the lady of the house has completed her daily worship. Basket of flower being plucked for daily worship. Chants of hymns. Space for human and birds and beasts and to animate and inanimate. Decorated by bees and butterflies. Shade of fruitful trees above carpet of green grass. Dews with memory of sharad poornima. An active day break with service of mothers. Taking leave with the told and untold instructions. Shouting out to transfer the energy. Bodies anointed with soil and dust. A lazy afternoon, hiding away from the blazing sun. Washing face with the cool water just pulled out of the resounding well. Grouping with others, when the sun is retreating at the horizon. Laughing till the belly hurts. songs at sandhya. Little sorrow and little joy getting intermixed. visited by the the passer by and sanctified by touch of holy men. Home of every hungry body, mind and soul. a Sangam of beloved ones. chatting away leisurely. Eating with many plates served together. Flow of milk and honey. Feasting every day in quality and quantity. Stretching away the tiring day and getting rolled in the darkness of every night witnessed by the flickering lamp at the distance. A story or a humming melody to slip in the other state of consciousness, while the sleeping dog keeps vigil.
my sweet home of my dream. Spending my time in pursuit of unknown ultimate.

Liberty of Democracy

“... This is the destiny of democracy, as not all means are acceptable to it, and not all practices employed by its enemies are open before it. Although a democracy must often fight with one hand tied behind its back, it nonetheless has the upper hand. Preserving the ‘Rule of Law' and recognition of an individual's liberty constitutes an important component in its understanding of security.”

culture of money

money is more intoxicating than wine. and looks like every one in society is drunk. craving for more. this is termed as development. those who dont have are told as unfortunate. earn money and then spend money. life is going round and round around money.
i dont want money to decide my life. i want to decide about my life. but looks like every step i take is pulling me in that fast moving cycle.
wish i had a life where money did not matter. life is more than all the comfort money can assure.
i dont want to oppose people who pursue money but looks like it is not for me to do so.

changes in the history

When I go through the pages of history I find only wars are mentioned. After every war the king changed and he did some welfare act. not much change in policy. Hardly we find any thing much about the common people. What did the common person gained by wars? Not much what did they loose by wars? Not much. Life went on. So wars were only for kings. Generally every king could be visualized a greedy, lust driven and power hungry person. Society could also manage one or few such person in return of the role of administration of society. So when the king felt to exploit he ravaged war and looted the wealth of other king and so that when he is defeated the winning king can loot away all that. The story went on and on. all such kings were looters and nothing more.
It took a change when religious fanatic kings started invading in name of religion. Army was made into fanatics to save word of God by beheading all who did not confirm it. people were differentiated based on whom they worshiped. World had do see something worse. now the looter had put on religious grab.
It turned into imperialism in. It became a a dirty game where citizen of loosing country became the lesser human than the winning country. So the earth was divided among the winners, mostly from Europe. They felt that it will end someday sooner than later. So they had to think whome to exploit.
In beginning of nineteenth machines were being invented. And the production rose. So finally looters thought of using this change for their benefit. looter put on the costume of industrialists. They told every one to use their product. with every product they sold a dream. they started manufacturing dreams. education policy was changed to teach children that if you have more you are better. When such children grew up they wanted more money to have more commodities. It turned out to be a nice plan for the ruler. Every common man could dream of matching the life style of the ruler to some extent and whole of the life was used in this purpose. They trained their children to be more vigorous in their approach and they brought up a competing society where every thing was valued by currency. So the paper currency became the invisible ruler. Anything which did not confirm this was termed backwards thought as if money was the only forward thought worthy to be had. They thought money gave then many and any. Slogan like greed is good and gold is god was put forwarded. Everyone nodded in confirmation.
Problem was turning into epidemic. This had to be stopped. For, it was leading to self destruction. When the world become a global village even the local act has global effect. The change has started happening.
Stage was made ready from the controlling ground Bharat. There were few who were sent to make the ground ready. When industrial revolution was rolling out in Europe Bharat was getting ready for a spiritual revolution. Sai was walking on the earth. The foundation was laid by him. The structure had to be rise and for that he came with more vigourous form. Where he is engulfing whole of the world. He tells every one to be ready for a big fight, a fight within, choose or perish.
Ram went right up to Lanka to defeat Ravana. Again he is entering the battle fielf created by Ravana. And any doubt who will win? No doubt. Yatra yogeshwaro kishna……

Study circle

It was interesting turn during study circle
We have been taking up some of the discourses dealing the topic "God Is". In one of the discourses there was a statement that this belief can turn this world into paradise. so the question arose how can we put it into practice.
As usual, every one thought in different ways. There was no translator to help me, so what I understood was only a bits and pieces here and there. When my turn came, I had few points to share about the topic. I will share them here again
There are broadly four types of people.
1 who strongly deny presence of God
2 who are indifferent to this question
3 who believe the thought that God is
4 who live the thought that God is
None of the above is wrong. Their number keep varying . though all of the above have something to teach, only the fourth type person is worth investigating in deep, because there is some stuff there. So below is some opinion about them
According to the Bhagwat Gita there are four stages of such people. They are
1 Salokya,
2 sameepya,
3 saroopya and
4 sayujya
Understanding that these words would be alien to even to many present age Bharateeyas , I thought of giving examples. Many of them have been to Parthi so the example can from that.
Salokya is like going and Staying in Prashanti Nilayam. It means living with God in same place. What happens when you reach Puttaparthi. It changes your routine and daily priorities. You involve more in bhajan and darshan. You have lesser distraction and disturbances. You give up many of your body comfort. You share your food and place with many unknown people. You don’t know may. You all are just like you in the prilgrimage of God. But this can happen anywhere once you enter the stage of salokya. So that is what happens when you feel you are living with God.
Next is Sameepya which is equivalent obtaining nearness of God. It is like going to Sai Kulwant hall waiting for His arrival. You cannot carry anything along with you. Just your self and nothing much. So that is what happens with getting nearer to Lord. Your attachment reduces. You have everything at home but you carry less burden.
The next is saroopya which meaning looking similar to God. When Swami comes, suddenly thought process slows down, some time even go blank and peace envelopes. Cannot say, one becomes same with Lord but there appears some similarity.
The fourth, Sayujya, the final stage means joining with nature of God. I cannot give exact example in the present series of analogy but still I would try. This stage may come from constant companionship. You start acquiring his nature, His peace, His bliss. You start radiating His Love. That is what which means when Swamis says your life is my message. Any object in constant companion ship of God acquires some divine nature. Even inanimate object like his car, It starts getting reverence. Even people who are lose to Swami start getting the respect.
Understanding this journey can make our attempt to put the statement that God is in practice. only when we reach the final stage we become living example for the statement that God is.
I myself was amazed with analogy. I had not even thought of them but they kept evolving as I was speaking and it was a surprise even for me

to whome it belongs?

It is story of the time Bharat was becoming colony of British empire. British found there was no proper tax system (Or they could not understand). So they thought of settling the tax collection system. In one of the region, they appointed one of the officials, who had got training in Indian language. That officer selected a village to start with but could not find any record about the village. So he thought of visiting the village. On the outskirt of the village he thought of taking taking rest before venturing the village. he saw a cowherd boy looking after cows in an open field, nearby. Officer thought that he can start collecting information from there itself. He called the boy nearer. With little hesitation boy came nearer.
What id your name?
"Mohan Gopal"
"Whose cows are these?” asked the officer.
"Mine" the answer was short and visibly soaked in fear.
"Tell me, exactly, how many are there?" there were many and Officer thought he can have some fun
"I don’t know how many in total but I can tell you detail. 5 are calf and 18 milking ones and 3 are pregnant and and 4 old ones non milking and and and...." boy was busy with his fingers while telling these numbers. it appeared that he had some thing to say. but officer did not have time to go through the detail.
Ok leave it, i understood. Don’t you know how many are there? How can you take care of them.
“Sahib! I know all of them individually and they too know me. What is there in counting. I am there to take care of them and they are here to take care of me. May be what you say has merit. May be when I grow up I will learn. My father knows counting.”
Officer was not in mood f knowing whole genealogy of the boy so he thought of coming to his topic of interest. "whose land is this?"
"Now this is my land"
"what do yo mean by NOW?"
"It means till noon."
"And after that?"
"it will belong to our neighbour."
"i understand. you both use this land"
"yes"
"but land belongs to whome?"
"i told you it belongs to me now."
officer thought it was waste of time to talk to that lad as he was not ready to understand his simple converstaion. he thanked for the information and jockeyed his horse. Boy was also left amazing that why this well educated man could not understand this simple matter.
he came to a village pond. It was busy with people. He saw a washer man who was lying down, probably after long hours of work, near the cloths which were drying. Seeing the officer approaching he got up and went to him with folded hands.
How many ponds are there in the village?
"Sahib, Three."
"Whose is this?"
"Sahib! mine. Other two belong to my brothers. Of course you can see sometimes he also comes here for washing. There was some dispute in past about the ponds but now for last five years it is almost setteled. Only once in while ladies fight and then we also get involved but you don’t see it quite often. Even the village headman will also support my point…” looked like the explanation was not going to end.
"Ok."
Looking at the dress he was putting on, it did not appear that he could own such a big pond. But then officer was not in mood to go down in detail. He took down his name and did a short calculation.
"You must pay Rs fifty annually. I don’t see you have paid tax anytime. With fine of Rs two hundred you must pay two hundres and fifty within a month."
That was enough to chage the track of speech the washer was running on. His voice became meak. "I don’t know what you are taking about the tax. I don’t even earn Rs ten a month how will I pay this amount?"
"Don’t fool me. This pond must have fish."
"Yes, they are there, but we don’t involve in fishing only my son sometimes lays his fishing rod and that is only for sometimes. I am washer man and I don’t even know details. Fishing is taken care by the fisherman. Look! he is standing there talking with three men. The one with bare body. “ when he turn at the officer he found that officer had moved to see that fisherman. Washer man could not understand why he was questioned. He followed the officer to know the happening at the place of fisher man.
"Yyou do fishing here?"
"Yes"
"Is this your pond?"
"yes"
"Then you must pay tax for it. and before you start telling some story let me tell you, it is Rs two hundred and fifty."
"every one gets fish from here. After distributing to every concerned person what is left with me in harldly little. I cannot pay this much amount. We don’t even earn that much."
"Then leave it. I know this pond will make thousands annually."
Officer was visibly angry. There was some commotion and people were gathering around.
He retracted from there. An elderly man could not grasp what what was happening so he stepped in.
"What happened, why are you all disturbing sahib?"
"Sahib will not allow anybody to use this pond." That was the complain of the fisher man by that time washer man also joined the gathering and he too nodded in conform the statement.
"Why sahib. Why will you seal my pond?" the old man looked sensible and calm. So officer thought that it was good to talk to him
"Is this your pond? Then you must pay tax."
"Sahib, I take only clay from this pond for making pots. How much do you want me to pay tax for clay?"
"Ok, I understood. You are a potter."
"Yes sahib and really speaking this is not my pond I belong to this pond. This washer man can use that for washing. And this fisher man can only use for fishing. So this pond has all of us. We maintain the pond an pond maintains us."
Now it was getting tougher for the officer. He had come for tax collection and not for the discourse.
Sahib village head man is not in village now he has gone to his in-laws village and if you wish you can come back after ten days and he can explain everything to you. but if you want, I along with someother elderly men of the village can come together to discuss the matter.
Don’t talk of all these to me I don’t have time for your stories. Is there anyone who deals with money here.
“Yes! Laksmipati can understand your matter.” It was again the old man who had replied. But the feeling of every person was evident on their faces. They did not like this person by name Lakshimipati.
he came out of the scene leaving people to discuss it further.
He led his horse directly in the direction mentioned. He stopped infront of a house, which was big compared to other houses. Laksmipati mainly involved in lending money on interest to the people. Officer met and told him that aimed to collect Rs thousand from this village. In turn he could get his commission.
Everything was worked out so that both were happy. The tax collection was given to him and with that he became the village tax collector. He promised to send a surveyor to fix the ownership of land in village which could help him in tax collection, which made the smile of rich man bigger.
It was evening when the officer was returning to his abode. He passed the same field, which he had passed in morning. He understood there were more number of cows and they were not the same cows even the boy, looking after them, was different. He did not want to create more confusion for himself. He saw a huge banyan tree there noticed a small group.
He enquired about the proceeding. One of the person told that Mallu Raja is gifting this village to his son-in law.
“This village belongs to him?” he started thinking about what he had talked with the rich person had any relevancy. Was he fooled by the rich person?
“Yes! Actually three other villages also belong to him. only he can offer the fire for the dead people of these villages. But he loves his daughter too much and so after her marriage he thought of gifting but his son has some reservation and the matter is being sorted out.”
“Crazy people!” The officer moved ahead.
He understood the village needed organization. And he will provide it to them.
After five years officer again went to village
He saw cows and on the same land but they were fewer in number. He called the man looking after it. he asked whose cow was this.
“Sahib! it belongs to lakhipati.”
He understood who this person is. He came to know that land and even the ponds belonged to him. He saw people had generally gone down in health. People were not seen relaxing but rather busy in work. Field were growing more of cash crops. People were saluting him from every corner.
He directly went to the house of Laksmipati. His house has grown taller. He inspected the record. Every land was assigned to some person. It seemed everything was not fine maximum of the land had Lakkshmipati as owner . But money was regularly going in coffer of the empire. Laksmipati wanted him to send some armed people to protect the land and to maintain law and order. And assurance regarding that was given. While departing he was given some precious gifts.
When returning in evening he saw few people who bent low for him.
“Father, who is this person” may be that was the child’s voice, which rose from behind. He was keen to know his identity in eyes of the person, who would give answer. Without looking back, he waited for the answer.
“He is the owner of all the land you can see.” was a low voiced answer. He could not understand when he became the owner of the land. He moved ahead.
He could not find out what happened to Mallu raja, who had gifted this village.

Acting or Reacting

why do you punish? punishment is for making person feel that what he has done was wrong. this is also to instill fear of punishment among the people. punishment is never a revenge carried out by the victim. what are we going to achieve in this punishment of Kasab? i doubt any of the mentioned objectives have been achieved.
if the objective was to just kill him, why delayed so long for the simple act. it foolish to say that the souls of the people who lost their lives will rest in peace. who told this? did those souls came and told their relatives about their agony in hell they are going through and they will be happy if only they see the sould of Kasab too joining then. it is just thought and nothing more. it can be wrong too.

we have been a looser in whole process. we were looser when out intelligence agengy did not even have any idea of attack. they say, they had some information. then we are bigger looser. that, even after the information we could do little to prepare ourselves for the event. whole world knows, how the episode went on for two days. i cannot think of worse response than what was seen. irresponsible administration, police, media, politicians and everyone trying to join the group.
and what about diplomacy after the incident. it is one area where one should not believe what one sees. but i can react only on what i see. keeping that in mind. i dont thing our government achieved anything on that front too. they say that cases were filed against the preparator. but we know it will turn out to be a joke in long term. we could do little to when USA was dealing with some accomplishes. forget others we could not go beyond Kasab. our investigation agency should rethink about its relevance.
i would think of special cell for such hardened people. where they are taught that that what they have done was not against Hindus or Bharat but against humanity and very much against the very God, they have been worshiping.even if that would have taken years it would be fine. but that would have been victory of Bharat. if Kasab would have repented for killing, that would have been the culmination of punishment. i dont say they must be released. but, i am not even avert to the idea that if fully satisfies then we could have allowed him to go back to his native land.
and inspiration for this come from the act of Lord Rama, who let Suka, the spy of Ravana, return to his place. that was great blow to Ravana. we have forgotten the power of Kshama. we are still loosing everytime we react rather than act

who needs me?

i have have been thinking that i need few and few needed me. i know, i am part of the whole and connected to all. but.....

different thoughts have been arriving lately.

who needs me? when i look closely then everyone is busy with their own problems and hardly have time to look at me. and when they are looking at me it appears that they are still busy with themselves. if not me it could be any.

so it must be with me too. may be i am also busy with my own self. do i need any one? sometimes the answer comes as a silent NO. and i feel lonely in the crowd.

when life does not need you there is death is lurking round the corner. greet it with the same intensity as you have been clinging to every moment of life till now.

what will happen after me?

nothing great. nothing to loose nothing to gain. life is dead. death is living.

Ladies of Bharat

i was talking to one of my friend who happen to be a lady and then my mind started thinking about the qualities which we tend to see in ladies.
i remember my nani (maternal grand-mother) used to say about the great five ladies of India. I cannot recall all names but there are few who have been very prominent due to unique qualities. they may have many qualities but each of them stand for something

undisputed leader among then is Sita. Unmatched. she was the ocean of virtues. when it was time for Ram to go to forest, there was no hesitation in her mind. with her logic she even convinced unconvincing Ram. When, Ram had to execute his plan, she readily participated and when Ram wanted to set example for kings to follow, she sacrificed herself at the alter of Dharma. I think Rama is Rama because He got Sita as companion.

Surprisingly another lady in the list was Mandodari, wife of Ravana, who was slayed by Rama. She was an ideal wife. She stood by her husband and always gave good advice. Ravana did not pay any heed to her words that was his fate. She did not forsake him. So i identify her with as a good adviser.

Then Anusooya comes to my mind. I have not gone through all the PuraNas so i have little knowledge about her. One incident is very famous about her. when gods wanted to test her chastity she overcame their test by making them children. To me it appears that if a lady thinks the world as her child she can overcome many problem and confusions.

Another land mark one is that of Draupadi. Her reaction to the ghastly act of Aswathama is an ideal. Aswathama had killed her five sons. when it was asked what should be done to him. She forgave him telling that she does not want to cause pain to mather of Aswathama. The quality of Kshama is highlighted in her character. of course the karma will take care of everybody's act and it took it course in case of Aswathama too. when i Hear a lady plotting for revenge i am very much repelled. i cannot digest it

I have heard Swami talking about the Chandramati, wife of Harishchandra. when Harishchandra was think about the promise, he had given, it was chandramati who supported him to follow the path of truth and even sold herself for it. the story is well known. again striking feature of the lady was her conviction in truth and in her own power. she could even quell the forest fire because she had faith in herself.

there is well known story of savitri who followed death to get back her husband. it goes on to show that even the mighty death becomes weak in front of such power.

list is very long...

they are the guiding lights for ladies of Bharat
